The following compiled list of tools is based on tips from parents who are members of the Facebook group \"SMUL \u2013 Swedish as a Mother Tongue Abroad\". Thank you for all the great tips! Books, E-books, and Audiobooks<\/h5>

Read books in Swedish! For those who find it difficult to access Swedish books abroad, e-books and audiobooks can be a good alternative. Some Swedish libraries allow you to apply via email for a library card that grants you access to their e-books and audiobooks. Explore the library's Bibblix app<\/a>! <\/p>\n

You can also find audiobooks on UR Play<\/a>, Barnradion<\/a>, and Spotify<\/a> (in some countries, you may need to get a Swedish IP address via a VPN service to register).
If you wish, you can try digital subscription services such as Ztory<\/a>, Nextory<\/a>, Storytel<\/a>, Bokus Play<\/a>, or Bookbeat<\/a>. The Polyglutt<\/a> app combines images and sound, allowing children to listen and read along to books. <\/p>\n

When your child starts learning to read, don't miss the popular easy-to-read series about Axel and Omar and Klass 1b by Helena Bross, as well as Livat p\u00e5 Lingonv\u00e4gen by Janina Kastevik.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

Children's Programs and Movies<\/h5>

Let the children watch Swedish children's programs on Barnkanalen<\/a> on SVT! A prerequisite for watching all programs abroad is to get a Swedish IP address with a VPN service \u2013 it's both easy and inexpensive. <\/p>\n

On UR Play<\/a>, there are plenty of educational programs to listen to and watch. One of the most popular is Livet i Bokstavslandet<\/a>, for children who want to learn about letters. <\/p>\n

If you want a large selection of children's movies, you can get SF Kids<\/a>, Disney+<\/a>, or Netflix<\/a>, where you have the option to choose Swedish as the spoken language.<\/p>\n

Parents recommend the following children's programs (most for younger children):
Sp\u00f6ket Laban, Lilla Anna och l\u00e5nga farbrorn, Pippi, Pettson och Findus, Bamse, Greta Gris, Lilla r\u00f6da traktorn, Babblarna, Daniel Tiger, Bing, Totte och Emma, Dora, Bolibompa, Nicke Nyfiken, Byggare Bob, Pokoyo, Dr\u00f6mmarnas tr\u00e4dg\u00e5rd, Barbapappa, Fem myror \u00e4r fler \u00e4n fyra elefanter, Dunderklumpen, Resan till Melonia. Some of these can be found on YouTube. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

Game Apps<\/h5>

In the enormous selection of game apps, it can be difficult to find the right one, but help is available! On PappasAppar<\/a>, you can read many reviews that make it easier to find fun and educational apps for your child. On Skolappar<\/a>, apps are reviewed by teachers. <\/p>\n

Elevspel<\/a> contains various educational games for school.<\/p>\n

Music<\/h5>

A great way to subtly incorporate more Swedish into everyday life is through music. On Spotify<\/a> and YouTube<\/a>, you can find Swedish children's songs. Barnradion<\/a> and Bolibompa<\/a> also have music on their apps. <\/p>\n

Children's music recommended by parents on Spotify and YouTube: Barnplaneten, Kompisbandet, Barnkammarboken, Hopphatten, Babyloonz, Mora Tr\u00e4sk, Mamma Mu-visor f\u00f6r hela kroppen.<\/p>\n

The silver children's songbook<\/a> with accompanying CD is a beloved songbook.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

Radio Programs<\/h5>

Swedish Radio has children's programs. Check out the overview on Barnradion<\/a> online. Here you'll find lots of different content for children \u2013 stories, music, games, crafts, etc. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

Magazines<\/h5>

The comic magazines Bamse<\/a> and Bamse f\u00f6r de yngsta<\/a> are recommended by SMUL parents. You can subscribe to Bamse abroad, but you can also choose to read the magazine digitally, for example, in the Readly<\/a> app. <\/p>\n

Kamratposten<\/a> is a popular magazine that targets a slightly older audience than Bamse.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

Board Games<\/h5>

Even though many children might prefer digital games, we must not forget about playing board games. Have fun together while your child learns a lot by, for example, playing Sm\u00e5 kloka barn p\u00e5 bokstavsjakt, Barnens alfapet, Barn Alias, or Fem myror \u00e4r fler \u00e4n fyra elefanter. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

Other<\/h5>

On Lektion.se<\/a> and Lektionsbanken<\/a>, you can find a lot of material that you can use to teach your child Swedish. The sites are full of valuable lesson tips from teachers that you can access for free. <\/p>\n

Spr\u00e5kens Hus<\/a> at Malm\u00f6 University Hospital targets multilingual children with language disorders and is aimed at parents, child health centers, speech therapy clinics, as well as monolingual and multilingual staff in preschools and schools throughout the country.<\/p>\n

Svenskar i v\u00e4rlden<\/a> - Swedes Worldwide is a non-profit and politically independent organization that, through advocacy, information, advice, and support, makes life easier for the nearly 700,000 Swedes who study, work, or for other reasons live abroad, as well as for those returning to Sweden.<\/p>\n

Svensk Utlandsundervisnings F\u00f6rening (SUF)<\/a> \u2013 an interest organization for parent associations or other principals, which organizes state-subsidized Swedish education abroad for nearly 6,000 students.<\/p>\n
