It provides strategic direction, is long-term in nature, and ensures quality, equity and development in our digital learning environment. <br \/>The concept is based on the Swedish National Agency for Education\u2019s syllabus for supplementary Swedish and is adapted for children and young people who live and attend school outside Sweden. The teaching aims to develop students\u2019 Swedish language skills in a functional and sustainable way, while allowing their Swedish identity to grow alongside other languages and cultures. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"et_pb_text_1 et_pb_text et_pb_bg_layout_light et_pb_module et_block_module preset--module--divi-text--default\"><div class=\"et_pb_text_inner\"><h2>Scientific basis and governance<\/h2>\n<p>The educational work is grounded in scientific research and proven experience, with a particular focus on research on multilingualism, language identity and digital teaching. The concept has a clear multi-year development perspective and is continuously revised based on new knowledge and experience.<br \/>The educational work is driven and led by an experienced and qualified principal, responsible for quality, follow-up and school development. The principal ensures that teaching maintains a high and equitable standard and that the school\u2019s work follows the applicable governing documents.  <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"et_pb_text_2 et_pb_text et_pb_bg_layout_light et_pb_module et_block_module preset--module--divi-text--default\"><div class=\"et_pb_text_inner\"><h2>Teachers and teaching<\/h2>\n<p>All teaching at SMUL Academy is delivered by qualified teachers with Swedish teacher certification, trained in Swedish or Swedish as a second language. The teachers have experience teaching in multilingual and international contexts and work closely with school leadership to develop the teaching.<br \/>Teaching is delivered online, in the form of distance and remote teaching, and is based on a well-considered digital pedagogy where interaction, structure and relationships are central. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"et_pb_text_3 et_pb_text et_pb_bg_layout_light et_pb_module et_block_module preset--module--divi-text--default\"><div class=\"et_pb_text_inner\"><h2>Educational principles<\/h2>\n<p>SMUL Academy\u2019s educational concept is based on the following principles:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Teaching that follows the Swedish National Agency for Education\u2019s syllabus for supplementary Swedish<\/li>\n<li>Individually adapted teaching based on language level rather than age alone<\/li>\n<li>A translanguaging approach where all of the student\u2019s languages are seen as resources<\/li>\n<li>High and clear expectations for students\u2019 language development<\/li>\n<li>Student influence and active participation in teaching<\/li>\n<li>Teaching that is engaging, structured and goal-oriented<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Core values and learning environment<\/h3>\n<p>The educational concept is permeated by Swedish core values and is based on:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The equal value of all people<\/li>\n<li>Democratic ways of working<\/li>\n<li>Diversity, gender equality and inclusion<\/li>\n<li>Our digital classrooms are safe, respectful and international meeting places where students have the opportunity to build both language competence and a sense of community with other children with a Swedish connection around the world.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"et_pb_text_4 et_pb_text et_pb_bg_layout_light et_pb_module et_block_module preset--module--divi-text--default\"><div class=\"et_pb_text_inner\"><h2>A cohesive concept<\/h2>\n<p>SMUL Academy\u2019s educational concept serves as a shared compass for school leadership, teachers, students and guardians.
