How do your students follow the instruction?<\/h2>

Students can take courses at SMUL Academy either as distance studies, remote instruction, or private tutoring:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • Distance instruction means that the parent guides their child, and remote instruction means that a teacher instructs the student.<\/li>\n
  • For basic courses A-E and beginner courses, printed teaching materials are sent to a Swedish or foreign address. In addition to this, the parent is added to our course folder on Google Drive where they will find our assignment schedules with all tasks and supplementary materials used during the school year. <\/li>\n
  • Basic courses F-K have digital teaching materials that are linked to the child's personal Gmail account, which we request upon registration. In addition to this, parents and students are added to our course folder on Google Drive where they will find our assignment schedules with all tasks and supplementary materials that can be printed. <\/li>\n
  • If the student participates in remote instruction and misses a lesson, they can catch up on the lesson themselves via the assignment schedule.<\/li>\n
  • After completing the school year, the student receives a diploma if attendance of at least 25\/30 lessons has been met, and all mandatory presentations and assignments have been submitted. Even if one is not aiming for a diploma and has not completed all assignments, one can apply for the next course. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

    How do I receive information from SMUL Academy?<\/h2>

    Initially, communication takes place via email with information regarding registration and class assignment. Thereafter, information is sent out via a weekly newsletter every Sunday with information for the upcoming week's lesson. Teachers sometimes also send out additional information between lessons via email.
    All parents are invited to a closed Facebook group for the current school year where they can receive support and advice from other parents with children at SMUL Academy. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

    What technical equipment is required?<\/h2>

    All you need to study at SMUL Academy is a computer (or tablet) and an internet connection, as well as a Gmail account. If desired, a headset or headphones and microphone can be useful, especially if you are sitting in a room with a lot of surrounding noise. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

    What happens if we have to travel for a few weeks?<\/h2>

    If the student cannot attend a lesson, we ask you to report the absence to the teacher. You will catch up on the lessons you miss on your own so that you can keep up after the absence. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

    Can one change classes if the time no longer works?<\/h2>

    We generally do not allow class changes after the first introductory lessons since we try to build a secure group dynamic with the class, but we can make exceptions in specific cases.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

    Does my child receive grades?<\/h2>

    SMUL Academy does not provide grades, which applies to all supplementary Swedish instruction worldwide. However, one collects points by meeting the attendance requirement (25\/30 lessons) and completing the mandatory presentation assignments included in the course. Each year, the student receives a diploma indicating which course they have taken and how many points they have collected. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

    What should one consider as a parent before online instruction? <\/h2>

    We usually advocate certain etiquette rules to make it pleasant for everyone when you have online lessons, such as:<\/p>\n

      \n
    • Listen to each other.<\/li>\n
    • Use \"mute\" when the teacher or classmates are speaking<\/li>\n
    • Respect each other<\/li>\n
    • Use \"raise hand\" when you want to speak<\/li>\n
    • Email the teacher if you cannot attend the lesson.<\/li>\n
    • Do everything you can to arrive on time for the lesson.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      We recommend that the student keep the camera on during the lesson for better interaction with the teacher and classmates.
      Remember to remove all distractions from the learning space such as mobile phones and other things that may demand attention.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

      Is anything special required of me as a parent?<\/h2>

      SMUL Academy is a non-profit school association based on parental participation. Each school year, we therefore ask parents with children at SMUL Academy to perform a minor volunteer task. This can be to: <\/p>\n

      • create class photos<\/li>\n
      • write posts on social media<\/li>\n
      • assist teachers<\/li>\n
      • write articles<\/li>\n
      • help with<\/li>\n
      • proofreading
        and much more<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        We send out a list at the beginning of the school year where you can choose a task or create your own.
